Other general information about alloy wheels;
Why fit alloy wheels? - Generally fitting alloy wheels to replace the standard steel wheels will reduce the unsprung
weight of your car. In other words the alloy wheel and tyre combination is lighter than the original steel road wheels. This has the benefit of allowing the suspension to react quickly, improving handling and braking. Upsizing on alloy wheels i.e. stepping up from 15" to 17" alloys will also improve the handling of your car. The profile of the tyre fitted to a 17" wheel will be significantly lower than the profile of the tyre fitted to a 15" rim and the lower the profile of tyre the less 'flex' in the tyre sidewall so handling and steering become more precise. You must always consider that fitting a larger alloy wheel may cause some clearance problems in the wheel arch so always check wheel clearances before upsizing your alloys.
Offset - Offset is the distance between the hub mounting face at the back of the wheel and the wheel's centreline. Offset is usually stamped or engraved into the alloy wheel and is measured in millimetres (for example ET35 = 35mm positive offset).
PCD - Or 'pitch circle diametre' is the dia of a circle drawn through the centre of your wheel's bolt holes. P.C.D. is measured in millimeters and also indicates the number of studs or bolts the wheel will have. For example 4x100 (4 bolt holes drilled through the centre of an imaginary circle of 100mm dia)
